JUST THE FACTS: DANGERS OF ABORTION
Abortion’s Ominous Danger: Cancer
There are many claims about abortion being safe from fatal complications or dangers. A woman who had an abortion may still have a child someday. But it has been found that a significant number of women who died during pregnancy have been found to be related to abortion. This is because women who had abortions are more likely to suffer from hemorrhage, miscarriage, infection, and ectopic pregnancies. When these conditions are not diagnosed and not treated, death may occur. Fortunately, these dangers of abortion provide strong and obvious symptoms that will compel women to seek professional medical health. But what if a particular danger of a recent abortion presents no early symptoms? This happens when cancer begins.
There are many types of cancer but all these types have one characteristic in common: the rapid increase of the number of abnormal cells. These abnormal cells, or cancerous cells, destroy the surrounding tissues and eventually render a body organ useless and diseased. But first what causes cancer?
There are as many causes as there are many types of cancer. Some risk factors identified are hereditary while others are environmental. In many situations, the occurrence of cancer is the combined interactions of the genes and of the environment. This is the case of women who underwent abortion and found themselves diagnosed with cancer.
There are three different types of cancer that are associated with abortion. These are breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer. Abortion does not necessarily cause the formation of abnormal cells. But abortion increases the danger of having these cancerous cells.
Breast cancer has been found to affect women who have never given birth, such as nuns. This is why researchers believe that the sequence of pregnancy, giving birth, and breast feeding provides a significant degree of protection against this disease. A woman who undergoes abortion breaks away from this protective process and faces a higher risk of having breast cancer. In fact, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reported that women who had abortion are 50% more likely to have breast cancer than other women.
Cervical cancer affects the cervix, which is found between the uterus and the vagina. It becomes damaged during abortion, encouraging the growth of cancerous cells. Women who had one abortion in their lives have twice as much danger of getting cervical cancer. And women who had two or more abortions face five times as much risk. Some researchers suggest that women who had abortions have weaker general health and are more prone to diseases.
Ovarian cancer damages the female reproductive organ that holds the eggs. The ovaries are sensitive to the hormonal changes in a woman’s body. Under extreme stress, the ovaries may not release a mature egg and there will be no ovulation. When a woman is pregnant and then decides to have an abortion, there will be critical hormonal disruptions. The chemicals used to induce abortion tamper with the work of the hormones. The result can be ovarian cancer.
Cancer is an abortion danger that cannot be ignored, simply because it does not show early symptoms. A woman who had abortion must determine if the danger of having cancer is looming nearby.
